Kim L. Cooper, MD

Dr. Cooper is a board certified Ophthalmologist and is fellowship trained in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. After attaining her Doctorate from John Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, she went on to pursue an internship from St Joseph’s Hospital, Phoenix, AZ and completed her residency from Stanford University Hospital, Stanford, CA. Later, Dr. Cooper received her fellowship from Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She has special interests in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Family Eye Care including strabismus (crossed eyes), amblyopia (lazy eye), nasolacrimal duct obstruction (blocked tear ducts), congenital cataracts, congenital glaucoma, progressive myopia, glasses for children and adolescents, and dyslexia (learning disability in reading). Dr. Cooper was a faculty at Stanford University Hospital, Department of Ophthalmology and Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital, Department of Pediatrics, and a volunteer clinical faculty member. Dr. Cooper is actively involved in clinical research including a vision screen app designed for parents and pediatricians called GoCheck Kids. GoCheck Kids helps detect vision disorders in very young children, even those pre-verbal, to help eliminate childhood blindness. Dr. Cooper also assists with product development by providing valuable user feedback to the GoCheck Kids team. Dr. Cooper has been practicing pediatric ophthalmology in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1994. She enjoys water and snow skiing, white water rafting, reading and traveling. Her favorite pastime is spending time with her husband and daughter.

Ellen Ong, OD

Dr. Ellen Ong was born and raised in San Francisco. After attaining her Bachelors of Science in Nutrition Science at UC Berkeley, she further pursued her doctorate training at the institution’s School of Optometry. She completed her clinical training at the Veterans Affairs Hospitals in San Francisco, San Jose and the Marin County Community Health Clinics.

Inspired by her childhood encounters with special needs students, she decided to complete an additional residency in Pediatrics and Binocular Vision at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, where she has had extensive training in diagnosing and managing visual disorders such as amblyopia and strabismus particularly in infants, toddlers and adolescents. She is passionate about providing early vision care to children to ensure their learning potential and enjoys volunteering at screening events such as the Special Olympics to continue to advocate for her cause.

Her additional interests lie in managing nearsightedness (myopia control) and eye muscle disorders such as convergence and accommodative insufficiency. She is both therapeutics and glaucoma certified and is comfortable managing conditions including glaucoma, macular degeneration, eye infection, cataracts, dry eye, and diabetic retinopathy

During her free time, she enjoys learning to cook new cuisines, taking nature hikes and exploring upcoming food and coffee spots throughout the Bay Area and beyond. Dr. Ong is certified by the California State Board of Optometry and is an active fellow of
the American Academy of Optometry.

Tiffany La, OD -currently on maternity leave

Dr. La received a B.S. in Genetics and Plant Biology from UC Berkeley before completing optometry school at the UC Berkeley School of Optometry. She has had extensive training at the Veterans Affairs hospitals in Miami, FL and Monterey, CA as well as at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. La also completed additional residency training in Pediatrics and Binocular Vision at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL.

Her special interests lie in pediatric optometry, general optometry, and contact lens fitting for adolescents and adults. Dr. La enjoys managing patients for myopia control (nearsightedness) and binocular vision conditions such as accommodative insufficiency and convergence insufficiency. She is glaucoma certified and is comfortable managing eye conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, dry eyes, and diabetic retinopathy.

Dr. La spent her childhood growing up in Las Vegas, NV but now calls the Bay Area her home. She enjoys exploring new places, playing board games with friends, watching Disney/Pixar movies, and visiting the Oakland Zoo and aquariums with her toddler and husband during her spare time.
